At first glance, the vintage-scouring, clog-clad residents of Cobble Hill might find the offerings of this midrange women’s boutique a tad la-di-da, but owner Nicola Salky-Johnson, an FIT graduate and onetime buyer for Christian Dior, sensibly stocks the 700-square-foot shop with sleek careerwear, comfy casualwear, and cocktail-party-perfect ensembles. Having chosen the district because the neighborhood’s quaint, old-world vibe reminded her of European villages she visited while working abroad for Prada, Salky-Johnson named her boutique to denote the dual desires of many female shoppers—the want for soft, girlish garb (pink), as well as vibrant, attention-grabbing “going-out” clothes (pepper). After passing through the bright pink doorway, the interior design inside is swank, with low seating, magenta curtains, and a replica spiral-staircase display. The clothes combine funky trends with well-made sophistication. The store boasts denim, dresses, and accessories from Elie Tahari, alice + olivia, and Rebecca Minkoff, while pieces from lesser-known European and South American designers round out the mix.
