Profile

Based in a refurbished blacksmith’s cottage at the end of a Chelsea alleyway, Pippin Home is the lesser-known counterpart to the adjacent Pippin Vintage Jewelry. Both stores are owned by Steve and Rachel Cooper, who live near the Vermont-Massachusetts border, where they canvass auctions for items to truck down to New York. The resulting collection is an ever-changing, reasonably priced mélange of classic New England antiques and quirky objects like Deco tables, steel soda cans, and Lone Ranger–emblazoned footstools. Writing desks, vanity bureaus, steamer trunks, and woodcut four-panel screens all have price tags in the low triple digits, while hanging faux-nautical lamps and Victor phonographs go for under a hundred dollars. Anything that doesn’t sell in four weeks is reduced by a quarter of its price, accelerating the already quick turnover. Items can also be rented out as photographer’s props.
