With the idea of bringing big-city fashion to Main Street, USA, Tom Mendes opened the first Plaza Too in Larchmont in 1988. Plaza Too expanded to Rye, Greenwich, and other nearby, fashion-conscious suburbs, before debuting in NYC in 2005 with the opening of this Upper West Side location. The pleasant women’s shoe shop has soft lighting, maple walls, and a bin of toys to distract shoppers’ kids. Mature styles from Cole Haan and Kors will shuttle Mommy all around town, and Tory Burch flats and Prada Sport slip-ons cater to the casual ladies-who-brunch crowd. Their most daring styles come in the form of Miu Miu pumps, Pedro Garcia’s sexy-yet-comfy rubber-soled stilettos, and elegant Loeffler Randall boots. A small eveningwear selection of Stuart Weitzman sandals and silk, metallic, and sparkly clutches are the finishing touches for a night on the town. And in the front of the store is a notable assortment of mostly over-sized bags—Kooba, Prada-owned Car Shoe, and Longchamp among them.
