The cotton batiste nighties at this far Upper East Side boutique are so dainty and snowy white they’ll make even the most experienced gal feel downright virginal. Shop owner Rosa Maria has been importing handsewn and embroidered nightgowns, pajamas, and robes from her native Brazil since 1999, and runs a separate wholesale business from the back room of her retail store. Maria often pops out of that back space to greet her customers like a warm, doting aunt; in fact, the shop, with its faux-brick linoleum floors and antique-lined walls, looks a little like your grandmother’s foyer—with the addition of three racks displaying sleepwear in small, medium, and large. A fourth rack holds clothing for the extra, extra, extra small: adorable hand-smocked dresses for children.

What looks at first glance like a decorative antique collection is actually for sale: On the side, Maria sells antique china and glassware that she and a few European friends have acquired over the years.
