Profile
Owner Jon Koon’s love for aesthetics is apparent the minute one walks into Private Stock, a menswear boutique tucked away in a relatively quiet section of Soho. Once home to Andy Warhol, the spacious store’s matte white interior, floating shelves, and suffused lighting have a dreamlike quality. Frosted glass lights up and displays the impressive koi pond, and Casamania-made chairs—constructed entirely out of recycled clothes—are suspended from the walls. The clothes themselves channel the store’s avant-garde look into a more down-to-earth, accessible aesthetic: a combination of sleek Japanese minimalism and European street style. Staples like cashmere and wool sweaters, smartly tailored overcoats and trenches, Japanese denim, and black-and-white graphic tees rule the top floor, as well as accessories like leather watches, suede wingtips, hats, and beanies. Customers seeking more flair in their shopping experience, however, may book a private appointment to the exclusive lower level, where they can peruse the collection of exotic-animal-skin leather goods and bags.
