Many of the pieces at Profiles would be equally at home in a Tribeca loft or an upstate country retreat. The store specializes in items that have a touch of contemporary style but are grounded in traditional furniture-making techniques—so they’ll have more lasting appeal than the latest fashion. The bulk of the showroom is devoted to sofas, chairs, bedroom sets, and tables by California-based designers. Berman-Rosetti of Los Angeles provides simple, geometric entertainment centers that bring to mind the clean serenity of traditional Japanese homes. A few European influences are also present, such as the bronze-legged desks and chairs by Hélène Aumont. And the showroom is lit by chandeliers by Stéphane Pagani and Marian Jamieson in glass, bronze, nickel, and brass.
