Deep-pink walls and black-and-white damask wallpaper distinguish this diminutive vintage clothing store from the nondescript barber shops, notary publics, and Dominican meat markets that also line this stretch of Havemeyer Street. Of course, the location means that items are priced below what they'd cost at similar establishments on the Lower East Side or even a few blocks west, on Bedford Avenue. Owner Saori Kuno, a former fashion designer, travels several times each year to Italy, France, and her native Japan, where she combs the countryside for elderly women willing to part with the vintage kimonos her shop has become known for. (Her Brooklyn customers love them for lounging.) Kuno gravitates toward eclectic items easily paired with current trends. This might translate to a forties feather-topped red cloche, a graphic-print Chinese dress from the fifties, or a cream lace gown with a drop waist circa 1970. Of the accessories, her sunglasses are the most impressive, with old-time statement specs from household names such as YSL, Chloe, Paco Rabanne, and Nina Ricci.
