In its sunny two-story midtown showroom, RCS Computer Experience offers the latest in big-ticket technology—computers, cell phones, digital cameras, high-definition TVs—plus smaller indulgences like jewel-studded laptop sleeves, luxe headphones, and a bounty of Wii games. Opened in 1990, the shop is well stocked and manageable, with plenty of salespeople on hand to help. Employees undergo weekly training on new products and technologies, and the personal-shopper option is particularly popular. On the first floor, Lenovo Thinkpads and Apple MacBooks give way to a massive cell-phone display and a camera counter that runs the length of the back wall. Up the escalator, plush red lounge chairs face plasma and flat-panel TVs, while DVDs and video games fill the racks. And software choices range from Adobe publishing to teach-yourself-German to TurboTax programs.
