Open since spring 2005, former Wall Street trader Rebecca Romero's warm hardwood-and-antiques accented boutique reflects its owner's cultivated tastes. Romero, who learned to sew from her mother and grandmother as a young girl in Colorado, celebrates her life-long love affair with travel, culture, art and fashion in her abiding passion for clothing and fabric, reflected in her colorful, feminine collection. Designed for the sophisticated woman-about-town, the skirts, tops, dresses and slim-fitting pants are crafted from rich, natural and seasonably appropriate materials—silk-lined suede and cashmere for fall and winter, linen, silk, and floaty chiffon for spring and summer. Sought-after Romero's designs include her tailored pencil skirts with inverted kick pleats and halter-tango dresses, both made of pearly silk charmeuse, a luxurious, old-fashioned fabric that drapes like heavy cream, not commonly used in today’s fashion world. While many of the shop's textiles originate in Italy and France as well as the US, all pieces are hand-finished right here, in New York City, for a sophisticated, sexy classic look that's still slightly unconventional.
