British brand Reiss offers slim-fitting basics with an aesthetic like that of a higher-end J. Crew or Gap. The label opened this giant, 5,000-square-foot U.S. flagship on West Broadway in 2005. Simple, mod couches furnish the space, and there’s a “chandelier ceiling” made of dangling pieces of acrylic glass. While the designs are contemporary, with ruched blouses and pleated skirts for women and plaid button-downs for men, the pieces find their intrigue in experimental cuts and tasteful embellishments. Many of the styles can be easily paired to create professional work outfits, often by layering with their classic women’s blazers and men’s suits.
