In contrast to Soho’s array of colorful cocktail dresses, designer Rick Owens deals in high-fashion gothwear with dark, textured knits; filmy jersey tanks; and asymmetrically cut coats for women and men. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors and windows and a white-on-white interior give the space a sleek, modern feel, including one wall that emits hazy clouds of fog. Simple silver racks are packed with runway apparel from current and past seasons—denim from Drkshdw, jersey separates from RickOwensLillies, and spring jackets from Palais Royal, among others—all in shades of black, dusky gray, and white. The attire’s inventive construction creates dramatic silhouettes, ranging from clingy racer-back tops and slim-fitting wool leggings to fur-adorned vests and leather jackets with peaked hemlines. A white staircase in the corner displays seasonal footwear like ankle boots or retrofitted high-tops. The only décor in the spare shop is select items from Owens's furniture collection: black chairs with angular, multifaceted seats that complement his inventive clothing.
