Profile

He’s not as cheap as you might find at a discounter or mass chain, but Robert Marc’s frames are handmade (meaning the eyepieces won’t wobble and the screws won’t break two months in). He uses excellent materials (Italian acetate, Japanese titanium), and prices start at $295. He’s best known for his trendy acetates, which come in an exhaustive variety of custom colors and shapes, but he also makes straightforward titanium and rimless styles and stocks cult brands that you won’t find elsewhere, like Lunor, a pricey, minimalist German line made from precious metals, and Retrospecs, a line of refurbished antique frames boasting that holy grail of modern eyewear: original forties and fifties aviators.

I had a totally different experience than the other person that wrote a review. The glasses I bought there many years ago are still beautiful. And I constantly get comments on them. I had to have the glass replaced because the glass broke when I dropped them once, but they could not have been more helpful. When I pass by a location I almost always go in and ask them to clean the glasses and they are always accomodating. I have three pairs and I would go back in a minute. Between when I first bought glasses there and my 2nd pair they updated the glass they use and my current pair seem indestructable - even though they are rimless, are a strange shape and I totally abuse them. I really want sunglasses with my prescription and I am sure they will be great. I seriously want to bring back my older frames to update the prescirption so I have more flexibility with which glasses I wear.

OK if you need an ego boost, not decent glasses

If you want to spend big bucks to place fashion before function, this is the place to go. Washers holding the frames to the lenses broke twice weekly until they replaced them with much larger washers and big black screws. The screws and washers interfere with vision. Meanwhile, the hard plastic nose pads, despite repeated adjustment, are so painful that they break blood vessels and are unwearable. Their solution? Buy a pair of soft plastic nose pads somewhere else. They don’t carry them in the right shape. Or buy the wrong shape from them. After all, what do you expect for @ $950? Great place if you have unlimited $ to spend on folks who excel in trying to make you feel hip and important rather than a decent pair of glasses.
