Store owner Rob Rodriguez spent the late eighties and early nineties enjoying New York’s club kid scene, soaking in the vibrant music and fashions of the time. A couple decades later, in January 2011, that energy has been channeled into his eponymous retail venture, Rob’s Shoppe, a new and used clothing and accessories store. The colorful space is stocked with a mishmash of styles, from vintage, eighties band t-shirts to frilly, new party dresses, although you won’t find looks quite as outlandish as what Rodriguez may have worn during his club kid days. Prices remain affordable across the board, with most used clothing, shoes, and accessories selling for under 40 bones. New items—mainly smaller labels like Rocketdog and Unrestricted—are a little pricier, but you’ll never drop more than a Benjamin on one item. Designer finds are hit-or-miss, but hits include a never-worn Betsey Johnson dress or a lightly used Burberry coat. In addition to clothing, the shop vends a small selection of records and novelty items like Zippo lighters and kitschy flasks.
