Husband-and-wife owners Fern and Leslie Penn were visiting family in Israel when Fern discovered a stretch of cosmopolitan Tel Aviv boutiques that reminded her of Nolita. She brought many of the designs back to New York and modeled her own shop after the ones she had seen, “to show New York another side of Israel, beyond the conflict,” she says. The spacious, wood-floored concept store showcases the fashion and home décor of more than twenty Israeli designers, including silk sundresses by Katomenta, Kisim tote bags (a style seen on Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City: The Movie), Ronen Chen floral skirts, and Hagit Witman’s brightly colored party dresses with a swirly, slinky hem. Rosebud aims to outfit women of all sizes, stocking form-fitting dresses along with breezy tunics and flowing wrap skirts. Handmade tableware is displayed opposite the apparel, with hand-painted 24-karat-gold teacups, decorative glass serving trays, and silver candlesticks. Loyal shoppers check back regularly for new wares—the Penns travel to Israel every three months, scouting designers and replenishing their stock.
