Forget tie-dye—San Francisco Clothing is more suited to the Upper East Side than West Coast, and a time-warped Upper East Side, at that. Since 1971, SFC has been seducing well-heeled women with the historical romance of brocade jackets, silk-taffeta shirts, floor-length duchess-satin skirts, and velvet pants. Dark armoires laden with classic pearls and crocodile-skin handbags are tucked between framed oil paintings and stacks of antique hat boxes. Some of the best-selling products, however, aren’t for the posh interiors of upper Manhattan, but for the inclement weather commonly found on sprawling country estates of aristocratic England. Authentic quilted Barbour jackets, water-resistant Loden wool coats, and rubber Hunter boots work just as well, however, for traversing Central Park as they do for wandering the moors.
