The first-name-only Portuguese designer displays her eponymous womenswear collection of crisp white blouses, tailored jackets, and silk scarves in this sleek Soho boutique. São designed haute couture in Europe for twenty years before opening her upscale New York flagship in 2005. The minimalist décor mimics the mainly black, white, and red color palette of the collection, with rows of buttoned-up mannequins lining opposite walls. The simple, clean-cut designs incorporate European fabrics and meticulous tailoring: Swiss piqué and English cotton blouses, scalloped bustier tops, silk jackets, and shapely wool blazers. The small-scale collection is marked by precise details—button-down shirts, model-stiff pleats or ruffles at the collar and cuffs; silk jackets feature intricate embroidery, scarves are painted in gold, and organza blouses sport upright, petal-like collars. Many of the iridescent silk scarves are lined in velvet and are large enough to double as cozy wraps.
