Profile

A combination of a specialty store and upscale linen emporium, Schweitzer's is filled with the kinds of items a demure uptown bride would want for her trousseau—full-length lacy nightgowns, tidy terry cloth slippers, and intricate, scalloped dust ruffles and duvet covers for the nuptial bed. First opened in 1970, the store's since grown to encompass several locations and a thriving web and mail order business. You'll find everything you'd ever need to satisfy your inner, pea-phobic princess—pillows, shams, and comforters a-plenty, to top the quilted coverlets and extra-deep sheets made for today's plush mattresses. Luxurious, 700-thread-count sheets are almost as soft as the Borghese cashmere throws and the thick Italian knit blankets. If Hugh Hefner's more your style, there are elegantly louche silk pajamas and cashmere robes, Martha mavens might favor the shop's copious selection of imported cotton, linen, and damask tablecloths, some woven of 1180-thread count Egyptian cotton said to be as fine as Persian silk. For the individualist, Schweitzer's offers embroidery and customization services on almost everything it sells; prices are based on the intricacy of the design.

Extra

Schweitzer's also offers a Wedding Registry, along with (all in good time) Layette and New Home Registries, for growing households on the move.
