Though clean, this shop isn’t much for looks, and watch out for puddles from melting ice–the mongers are sometimes too busy filling wholesale and retail requests to mop. Still, with glistening fresh trout, pearly white halibut, whole branzino and corvina, baskets of crabs or tanks of lobsters (in season), and buckets of bristling sea urchins–not to mention a multitude of shrimp (small to extra jumbo) from various waters (Ecuador, Mexico, Louisiana)–there’s little in the ocean that Sea Breeze doesn’t stock. Hand-holding is minimal: This is less a fish boutique than a working market, scales, fins, claws, and all. You’ll wait for most items to be cleaned, and some things may run out early in the day, but that’s part and parcel of the charm.
ExtraFor specialty items or large-scale clambakes, order a few days ahead.
