Search and Destroy
This hard-core St. Marks punk store is not for the faint of heart; in the small, densely packed space, a plastic bloody pig carcass and a bondage mannequin wearing a gas mask count as decorative accents. The large selection of vintage tees is more about quantity than quality—including an entire rack of $5 T-shirts—though a few rare finds can run upwards of $50. The spot has definite theme-party and Halloween-costume potential, especially for the area’s NYU crowd, with a mix of Hawaiian shirts, leather bomber jackets, women’s eighties dresses and sweatshirts, vests, leather boots, and vintage shoes. Although band tees and thrift garb fill most of the racks, the assortment of sex toys, masks, iron-on decals, studded belts, and Manic Panic makeup draws a diverse clientele.
