Japanese designer Seigo Katsuragawa comes from the traditional school of kimono making, which may explain why his handmade ties are beautifully folded, uniquely patterned, and usually made of a shiny, textured silk. His tiny self-named shop sells ties only, grouped by pattern and cut on small wooden and glass shelves placed neatly and deliberately around the boutique. Many handmade accessories that are sold in Manhattan require a second mortgage to finance them, but Seigo is a welcome exception: His ties price out at about $80 and, even more astounding, he makes no more than twelve of each design before moving onto a new one. That rule doesn’t only apply to his traditional ties; there’s a smattering of equally gorgeous, equally unique ascots and bowties for sale, too. — Faran Alexis Krentcil
