The Shoe boutique in Nolita is home to only one brand of footwear—Cydwoq—but that’s not where the leather goods stop. The earthy shop, which wafts leather scents out onto Mulberry Street, has cracked tiles for floors, raw brick walls, and burlap-covered tables. On the tables sit Cydwoq’s sturdy styles, including kitten-heel boots with zig-zag closures, rugged lace-ups, square-toe slip-ons, and strappy flat sandals. All utilize the fewest number of vegetable-tanned leather pieces needed in order to minimize stitching and improve comfort. The brand also makes big-buckled leather belts that are rolled up in cubbyholes against the wall, set among unisex credit-card holders, two-tone leather wallets, and coin purses by Tusk. There are chic roll-up clutches by Hobo International and tough Balenciaga-like zippered clutches by Tano, as well as Bolu’s rainbow-hued slouchy totes and Sabina NY’s more structured, hardware-heavy bags. There are even more bags down the block at Shoe’s sister store, Bag.Sales
