Kareen Smith displays her own versatile women’s-wear line in this inviting boutique. She makes each item by hand in a downstairs studio, unveiling new collections each season. The shop is decked with colorful pillows and vases of flowers, and chairs are tucked into corners for lingering shoppers — Smith performs on-site alterations free of charge. Her flattering, voluminous designs are sewn from all-natural fabrics, including wide-legged linen trousers, flowing cotton sundresses, wrap skirts, and cashmere sweaters. The apparel is designed to have lasting power in a woman’s wardrobe: Tank dresses can be paired with gauzy cotton overlays, and some shirts can be worn in several different ways. The simple, solid colored fabrics and subtle floral prints bear evidence of Smith’s careful craftsmanship, with accents like fine tucks, asymmetrical cuts, ruched necklines, or bubble hems. Tables in the back of the shop are covered with giftable lacy-boy shorts and silky tanks from Kura, L’Aromarine Paris Fragrances, and Turc & Turc leather handbags in vivid shades.
