This Tribeca streetwear store doubles as an art gallery and outlet for exclusive artist-commissioned sneakers. Opened by a trio of childhood friends in fall 2008, the modern space features three diner-esque booths beneath a brilliant display of Robert Munn’s 3-D depthography. A glass case houses a collection of one-of-a-kind custom sneakers—one with the Joker sneering from the heel, another with intricate modern designs—hand-painted by one of twenty local artists, including James Topp and Jayson Atienza. The shop commissions bespoke pairs as well (starting at $250), which customers can order with everything from stingray skin to peacock feathers. A full range of Air Jordans is propped on an overhead shelf to satisfy traditionalists. Screen-printed and illustrated T-shirts and hoodies span racks on the opposite wall from brands like Orchard Street, Ezra Wine, Cheeba, and the in-house Solefood label. Shirts are served up in plastic containers—a play on the store’s name—and on Solefood Sundays customers receive a free plate of soul food with purchase, from restaurants including Sylvia’s in Harlem.
