Profile

This venue is closed.

Named after a song by fifties rock legend Eddie Cochran that was later covered by the Sex Pistols, Somethin’ Else prides itself on its selection of timeless, often recycled fashions and new and used CDs and LPs. Primarily, though, Somethin’ Else is a good-old neighborhood record shop, a refreshing, laid-back alternative in the current era of music megastores. Owner Anthony Roman and his friends and co-workers stock mostly independent labels of reggae, electronica, indie, garage, punk, and classic rock that they personally love, as well as clothing with a vintage sensibility from the forties to today. The cozy, bi-level, turquoise-hued store carries music on the first floor, clothing on the second, and the staff is always happy to recommend an up-and-coming band or test out a $1 disc discovery while customers lounge on the red velvet couch. The shop also hosts in-store shows by bands like Alternative TV, Ted Leo, and Roman’s own Radio 4.
