Owner and jeweler Sharon Koweek developed a love for buttons early, inspired by her grandfather’s button factory. The artist casts stray buttons in sterling silver, dots them with semi-precious stones, and strings them on chains to create striking creations, like silver palm-frond necklaces and oxidized shield earrings carved with floral patterns. After tiring of the national jewelry circuit, she brought her unique designs home to Brooklyn in 2006. She handcrafts her jewelry in the back room of her diminutive shop and hangs them on the walls along with pieces from long-time friends and local artists like Cake, whose stone-centered creations include microfiber strings with single, fresh-water pearls, and an egg-shaped slab of imperial jasper on a slim strip of leather. A lone case in the center of the shop spotlights the cheeky designs of Jennifer Kellogg (favored by stars like Amy Sedaris, Sara Jessica Parker, and Paris Hilton), such as silver rings with robin’s-egg-blue and lavender enamels. The roster of artists rarely changes, but new jewelry designs appear every few months.
