Stella Dallas takes its name from a book and two old movies, and the neatly organized, welcoming shop brims with vintage clothing with a forties and fifties flair. Opened in the late eighties by a textile designer, it is now owned by a Japanese couple who worked in fashion in Tokyo. Dresses, tops, and crinoline skirts hang on the walls under the gold pressed-tin ceiling. Among the racks are white chiffon, gold brocade, and black lace styles, as well as an ash-blue organdy dress with embroidered pink roses. In addition to tops, skirts, and coats, there are also accessories like colorful feathered hats and yellow and black snakeskin peep-toe slingbacks. And there’s no shortage of fancy trimmings, like lace, embroidered, and patterned handkerchiefs; brightly patterned aprons; and beaded pink satin and purple velvet gloves.
SalesThere are annual Thanksgiving and Christmas sales.
