After years of sharing work spaces in and around New York, Lindsey Thornburg and Some Odd Rubies decided to join forces in a communal boutique on the Lower East Side. The three designers share hidden design areas, while the retail front showcases Thornburg’s signature cloaks, Some Odd Rubies’ reworked vintage pieces, and accessories and clothing from friends (and friends of friends). Lonely Hearts lingerie hangs from wooden racks, flirty dresses line wooden bars suspended with braided ropes, while jewelry from Veronica Moore, Unearthen, and Suzannah Wainhouse fill display cases with precious stones and dainty rings. Thornburg’s Peruvian-inspired cloaks are prominently displayed on a self-designed iron-welded stand (Meryl Streep is a fan). High-schoolers occasionally drop by for a high-end or vintage-y prom dress, and the reggae music, exposed beams on the ceiling, and bohemian prints (not to mention animal-friendly fur products from naturally shedding rabbits) remind shoppers that they are indeed in the grungy, hippie-esque LES.
