Alive and kicking since October 2003, fashion photographer Arthur Julian's furniture haven departs from traditional American design—heavy woods, turned legs, oversincere Colonial reproductions—by fusing modern production capabilities with the talents of established and emerging U.S.-based designers. Part gallery, part retail/trade showroom, Sublime caters specifically to locals (mainly deep-pocketed Tribeca loft-dwellers), though it does attract its share of clients from outside the city eager for something different, like an Anthony Brozna bed built from a black walnut tree downed by lightening on Doris Duke's estate, or architect Matthew Houi's automotive-spring supported chaise lounge upholstered in Edelman metallic-foil leather. Sublime's bright, loft-like showroom boasts three levels of custom furniture and a collection of home and personal accessories, bedding, lamps and rugs. Be sure to visit the basement for pieces like the heavenly Gerscovich Brothers' sheepskin beanbag chair and Critz Cambell's light-up lava loveseat. Although Sublime has designated public hours, prospective clients are best advised to make an appointment for a private meeting.Sales
Sample sales of selected pieces from July through August, as well as a year-end sale on selected accessories.
