While Southern belle and former Sony employee Sude Dellinger Peta was traveling with the label’s bands early in her career, she ended up recruiting a different kind of talent: her husband and future business partner. The two hopped off the tour bus and launched the first of her three namesake stores in 2001. While much of the merchandise at the boutiques isn’t necessarily unique—the racks are full of Free People tops—the golden ticket is the legion of discounted designer jeans by names like AG and Joe’s that sit folded into every open cubby; Sude and her husband stake out comparable merchandise sold at Barney’s and mark their prices about 10 to 20 percent cheaper. The atmosphere is so comfortable that it’s not unusual to find the owners showing off the latest photos of their kids or doling out honest style advice to customers stepping out of the fitting rooms.
