Amateur weekend warriors looking to spend a few days camping or on the slopes may be overwhelmed by Tent & Trails, while serious explorers who require more than what Modell’s has to offer will feel right at home. Nearly every inch of the tri-level shop is packed with outdoor gear, from altimeters to Zeal goggles. Down parkas by Canada Goose and Patagonia hang in precarious bunches from floor to ceiling, while Arc’teryx, Gregory, and Osprey backpacks line the walls and have enough space for a month’s worth of rations. Meanwhile, a wide array of boots stand at attention in the corner ready to weather freezing cold (or scorching hot) conditions. But a serious expedition requires more than the proper wardrobe and the store’s gleaming glass display cases are filled with high-tech gadgets: handheld solar panels that can charge electronic devices and UV lights that can purify water.
