Two years ago, Aleah Speranza was at an LCD Soundsystem concert when she shared her idea of opening up a hoodie-only boutique with her friend Peter Shapiro, who co-owns the wildly popular Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. He thought it could work if it was not just a store, but also a cultural space, and after his friend, Amir Thompson (professionally known as Questlove from the roots) joined the venture, the dream became reality in March of 2012. In the sixties-inspired space, the floors are painted with peacocks and the walls are adorned with symbols of another era, like re-released Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses and vintage concert knickknacks. As for the hooded goods, they are created by designers from all over the world and made from high-quality materials, with Peruvian cotton the most popular choice. Options include leather jackets, backless cardigans, and even swimsuits with hoods and while the shapes can be somewhat unusual, the items have a certain individualist charm.
