The Market NYC allows New Yorkers to meet emerging designers and buy their goods at discount prices. The weekend-only market takes place in both Nolita and the West Village; in Nolita, about 60 designers set up tables weekly in a sprawling, high-ceilinged warehouse. Though the roster changes from week to week, visitors can expect to find a healthy dose of zany unisex T-shirts (with slogans like “I Heart Guacamole”), slouchy leather bags, both chic and earthy dresses, bejeweled leather sandals, hand-knit scarves, skull-print ties, and booth upon booth of beaded jewelry. More offbeat items include belt buckles printed with original photography and reworked ladies’ vintage pieces. Even if the price is too high at first, designers are willing to bargain, and chatting one up for awhile can sometimes help land a good deal.
