Profile

Named after a slang term for an “old sailor,” this pet store and grooming spa is devoted to serving its South Street Seaport neighbors. The food is almost entirely organic and includes California Natural and Innova, as well as offbeat treats like Bowser Beer (an alcohol-free dog brew made of malt extract and beef stock). Custom accessories like beds, collars, and coats are another specialty here. Owners can even commission a cartoon-like portrait of their pets by artist Heather Piccoli. The grooming area is separated from the store by a glass wall so owners can watch their dog or cat being attended—and the staff goes the extra mile, clipping nails and hand-drying the animals. For even more pampering, on weekdays clients can drop off pets as early as 8 A.M. for a full day that includes grooming, two walks, supervised playtime, and treats.

I drop-off my puppy with specific instructions for the groomer. AND, the groomer had ensured me that my dog will be ready in time for me to catch my train back home for the weekend. It took the groomer 5hours just to groom my 5lbs puppy. And now, I hardly recognize my dog AND I missed the off-peak train AND the groomer was so VERY RUDE when I complained. Eric is exceptionally rude, very dramatic and didn't even offer to give any discount or offer an apology...the owner had to apologize for his behavior. Unless they get rid of this pompous, self-proclaimed groomer, I really don't think I'm going back there, even though their other groomer- May did a good job the last time.

I have been shopping at the Salty Paw since they opened in April this year & each time I have visited I have found something new & wonderful there for my black lab. The place has a very inviting feel, the people are knowledgeable and friendly- especially the owner- Amanda. In addition to a great selection of doggie couture, they have a variety of organic and premium food and treats- my puppy pulls me in there every week just for the free treats. They also provide grooming and use only the best hypoallergenic and organic materials. My dog smells, looks and feels great after her spa treatments. I highly recommend the place, it is by far the best pet shop around.
