This 1,800-square-foot home-design store is sprawling, but inviting, with a bar in the rear serving espresso or wine. Owners Charlie Akwa and Jennifer Flanders are well versed in the business: Akwa works in tabletop dressing and formerly owned the tableware and gift store the Elegant Egg Cup, while Flanders, whose work has been featured in Traditional Home magazine, started her career at interior-decorating company Cullman & Kravis. The pair opened the shop in fall 2009, in a former home that dates back to the 1860s. Various vignettes make up the long space, including tables elaborately set with antique and new china and an upholstered bed dressed in crisp, hand-embroidered linens by Gayle Warwick. (This is the first boutique in the U.S. to sell the full collection.) The duo stocks a selection of mainly European vendors, like tableware from Nason Moretti, linens by Alexandre Turpault, and mainstream labels like Hermès. From the art on the walls–black-and-white photography from Lev Gorn, prints by Donald Baechler–to a custom-made leather banquette, everything here is for sale. The pair also offer custom orders, gift baskets, interior-design services, and a bridal and gift registry.
