One of many thrift stores along Greenpoint’s Manhattan Avenue, this shop’s basement is a dream for determined record enthusiasts. First, visitors must navigate the haphazard smattering of heavily used kitchenware, clothing, furniture, CDs, DVDs, and other bric-a-brac that fills the ground floor. Then, in the back, a handwritten sign beckons shoppers down a narrow staircase into a dim basement; here, three aisles of shelves are crammed with more than 130,000 unsorted records (all selling for flea-market prices) that owner Larry Fisher acquires from auctions, estate sales, and classified ads. So jam-packed is the area and so frequent are Fisher’s additions that the collection has started creeping upstairs in crates and boxes. It’s best to visit when you have a free afternoon to sort through the titles, and keep in mind that while most of the stock sells for a fixed price, negotiations aren’t impossible. — Bree Sposato
