Profile
The monkeys on the logo of this sunglass shop from Chilean eyewear connoisseur Jorge Pozo are meant to illustrate the proverbial principle of “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” It’s small and stark, with a white tile floor, white walls covered in colored polka dots, numerous colored monkeys lined up on glass shelves, and overhead tube lights—the sensory overload is enough to make one want to reach for some of the shades on offer. The specs come in all shapes and styles, from blue mirrors and plastic frames to the thin metal frames, flat across the top. The store carries three exclusive brands: Three Monkeys, IHNK, and WAP, whose slogan “We Are Not Designer Eyewear, We Are Not Fake, We Are Plastic” sums up the store’s aesthetic. It carries sporty brands, like Oakley, but is not exclusive to athletes. There are also big names in the sunglasses world such as Ray-Ban, Persol, Electric, and Quiksilver, though no “haute” brands, like Gucci and Dior. In addition to eyewear, the store also sells T-shirts and vinyl monkeys.
