Profile

As a child, Todd Hase tagged along when his parents, both professional dealers, worked the antiques circuit. By 12, he was allowed to make purchases on his own. In 1996, he launched Todd Hase Furniture with his wife and business partner, Amy, combining his lifelong appreciation for antiques with a decidedly modern sensibility. The designer, who has customized pieces for Cameron Diaz, Donald Trump, and the set of Sex and the City, produces antique-inspired furnishings in a variety of styles—from eighteenth-century to early Deco—that are timeless, sumptuous, and marked by an obsessive attention to detail. The upholstered seating has eight-way hand-tied springs and the intricate marquetry patterns on tables and cabinets are all laid by hand. The Traditional collection, inspired by the Directoire and Empire eras, is a forward take on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century shapes, featuring colorful, high-gloss lacquers (think pea green and lemon yellow) and fabrics that echo Pompeiian frescoes. Hase also has a line of nature-influenced textiles that includes silk cocoons and silk mohair.
