Profile

Israel Levarek's eccentric East Village shop, specializing in hip Japanese imports, is reached by climbing a bruised set of white-and-black stairs. The place is stocked with Japanese imports and collectibles: all types of twelve-inch dolls, including Samurai guys, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars; hand-painted porcelain miniatures of the Simpsons, Smurfs, and the Pink Panther; Transformers; Muppets; Totoro figures; Japanese "candy toys," as well as more recognizable figurines like Godzilla, and key chains with aliens and other Japanese animated characters.

Toy Tokyo is heaven for anyone who loves pop culture and animation. The toys are from Japan and range from Godzilla to the Simpsons to Tim Burton collectibles to a slew of anime. There are plenty of characters that not everyone will recognize but all the toys are fascinating even if some are rather pricy. Great for browsing even if you don't want to splurge. Items not behind glass are more affordable.
