Rae’s owner Raina Passo was named after her mother, and she recycled the moniker again for this small unisex boutique in Carroll Gardens. Items like men’s earth-toned linen shirts and black, floral-cutout Angie dresses stand out in the slightly drab showroom and balance the skimpier, Night At the Roxbury-esque selections like booty shorts and poodle-shaped handbags. Lucky Jeans, hipsterish Nick & Mo blouses, and decoupage Wabisabi Brooklyn jewelry (with F-train motifs) cater to younger Brooklynites, but Rae’s really delivers with its softer, more conservative women’s clothing—loose-fitting, richly textured garb that flatters more mature women. Rae’s doesn’t stock much of any particular item, since the inventory’s constantly rotating, but staffers will take note of a customer’s preferences for the next time they place an order.
