Myriad New York institutions—ranging from Peter Luger's to Fresh Direct—are supplied with some of their desserts by this bakery. Although the retail space is primarily for wholesale business, a white-aproned baker will step away from his vat of brownie batter or his tray of Southern-style cornbread long enough to take your order for a half-dozen raspberry walnut tarts or perhaps a sour cream Bundt. Think big when you consider the ten-inch and decorated sheet cakes or the quiches and flavorful loaves, since you'll be taking home the whole thing and not simply savoring a single slice. Even cupcakes (chocolate, lemon, red velvet, or vanilla) come by the half-dozen. At Thanksgiving, locals line up for pumpkin, pecan, and apple crumb pies, as well as the top-selling chocolate mud cake: a mousse-filled Vienna fudge tort.
ExtraIf you're ordering a single item, it pays to pick it up in person—there's a $15-$20 delivery charge on orders less than $100. Decorated cakes require orders two days in advance, and orders of 10 pieces or more should be phoned in as well.
