Italian shoe company Via Spiga takes its name from the famous shopping street in Milan. So it makes sense that the brand’s New York outpost is on a similarly buzzing New York thoroughfare. The Broadway location has a fountain, faux-marble tiles, and circular leather couches on the middle of the floor facing black-and-white images of Milan—though the goods (made from Italian materials of course) are actually designed in Florence. Dominating the space is the women’s shoe collection, which includes patent leather slingbacks in animal prints, stacked-heel booties, and pumps in metallic stingraylike leather. For casual occasions, there are suede ballet flats and horsehair loafers with snaffle bits. On the more subdued men’s side sit handsomely tanned Chelsea boots, slip-on driving shoes, and lace-up wingtips. And although shoes are Via Spiga’s bread and butter, female customers can also find an equally sophisticated collection of belts, crocodile-embossed leather handbags, oversize sunglasses, and smart coats.Sales
