This crowded, shoebox-sized emporium spills over with treasures from Tibet, Nepal, and India. Tibetan-born owner Sonam Zoksang lived as a refugee in India before moving to New York at the age of 24. In the early 90s, he bought what was then a Tibetan craft shop and transformed it into a tightly packed bazaar of Buddhist statues, handcrafted jewelry, sarongs, and trinkets. Behind the counter is a glass-encased menagerie of earrings, pendants, and rings fashioned from native coral and turquoise. While devout followers of Buddhism and other Eastern faiths scour the marketplace for its prayer beads and other ritual items, the family-run shop's hand-knit hats and mittens are a wintertime favorite among NYU students.
