Yet this financial-district institution—in business since 1920—itself has an expansive inventory. There’s a Benjamin Moore mixing station and service counter where the staff helps shoppers find, order, or plan the parts needed for a project. Besides the obligatory drawers and boxes of numerous types of nails and screws, there are pegboards and shelves holding goods like concrete drill bits, replacement stove knobs, percolator tops, sink stoppers, woodcarving tools, and hacksaws.
