The smell of rich leather permeates the air in this small studio-cum-store where designer Wendy Nichol and her team create naturalistic jewelry and bags. Opened in September 2010, almost half of the store is used as an open studio space where Nichol and her team can be found sewing fringed, leopard print, leather clutches by hand or braiding belts with luxurious Mongolian horse hair. Purse fanatics can grab Nichol’s satchel-, bullet-, and duffle-bag styles in American Canyon leather or hand-woven silk dhurries from bespoke textile producer Vanderhurd. Nichol’s signature metal spike and pyramid shapes are abundant in the store’s jewelry collection. — Sara Idacavage
