Profile

This venue is closed.

The success of Spruce Design + Decor, a home-design store in the Catskills, spurred owners John Krenek and Martin Nederpelt to open a Brooklyn shop. Set along the Greenpoint waterfront, the 5,000-square-foot space has the atmosphere of an artist's warehouse loft and is filled with wood furnishings, ceramics, and household accessories by local and foreign artists, many with steep price tags. Baskets of hand-sewn elephants and giraffes greet visitors, but everything else looks as if it should be handled by adult hands only. There’s a John Widdicomb coffee table, enamelware bowls from Kiln Design Studio in Brooklyn, a goat-fur throw from Sweden, and—on one white wall—unpublicized photos of classic Hollywood legends like Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne. The owners have also branched out into interior design, and the back of the shop serves as a studio for projects that have been featured in Elle Décor.
