William Barthman has been a Financial District staple since the late 19th century when Maiden Lane was considered Manhattan's mecca for fine gems and baubles. Though the luxury jeweler has moved a few storefronts down from its original corner perch, its warm interior holds reminders of its storied history. Many of the original wooden claw-foot display cases still house the glittery collections of men and women's jewelry, while black and white photos of the Barthman family hang above the shop's entrance. Rolex watches are the store's bread and butter, though Cartier watches and David Yurman jewelry are also big sellers. Sweethearts can shop for engagement and wedding rings while expectant parents will find dainty baby booty charms in blue and pink. The shop also has a few moderately priced, non-designer pieces such as gold and silver chains and pearl and gemstone earrings. Tucked in the back is a gift gallery where porcelain figurines and silver baby picture frames mingle with Waterford Crystal vases and Mont Blanc pens. Corporate gifts can be special-ordered from the gallery as well—in fact, the Yankees order their Player of the Month trophies from William Barthman.More Across the Bridge
