Profile

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, a sprawling mall of over 220 stores, is about an hour’s journey north from Manhattan to Central Valley. As a “premium” outlet, Woodbury’s huge roster includes designer retailers rarely seen at discount malls. Stores like Dior, Tory Burch, Chanel, Cavalli, and Jimmy Choo reflect the up-market shoppers traveling in from the boroughs (and explain the tourists, who come by the busload). Off-the-rack department stores like Neiman Marcus Last Call and Sak’s Off Fifth offer twenty-five to sixty-five percent off their Fifth Avenue prices. Exclusive home stores make buying an impressive wedding or shower gift cheap(er) and easy—you can’t go wrong with top-of-the-line linens from Frette, or coveted cookware by Le Creuset. While it might be frightening to expose children to such an intense retail environment, Woodbury could be the exception: There are dozens of children’s clothing and toy stores in addition to a small playground near the food court. Check out the website before you make the trek; by completing a free registration online with the “VIP Lounge” you can print out coupons and vouchers good for your visit. Also, shoppers over 50 years old get ten percent off on Tuesdays at participating stores.
