Rustic and Mediterranean influences shape the feel of this airy, expansive boutique: wooden floors, desert-colored landscape washes, and arched, exposed-brick walls. The fashions, meanwhile, are richly contemporary, echoing the surroundings in their textured materials and warmth, but employing modern cuts and techniques. Owner Jana Tomko, who emigrated from Turkey and opened her early-comer Soho shop in the late eighties, carries largely European designs and fabrics, such as Cotelac’s leather jackets and mixed-material tops, vintage-accented Italian organza, silk and linen pieces by Krista Larson, and colorful Hoss handbags from Spain. Pieces by New York labels also make a showing, among them hand-beaded sweaters by Ascensions, cashmeres and chiffon skirts by Central Park West, and Carlos hats. Tomko is also big on twin sets, leather belts loaded with hardware, and brightly embroidered boots from Istanbul, as well as butt-lifting Perfection jeans and American Vintage tees, some of which can, at times, be snapped up from the discount bins in back. Hints of the Middle East come through in the music, the earrings dripping with gold coins, and the blue glass evil-eye charms.
