Profile
One of Fort Greene’s few—if not only—shops devoted to home décor, Yú is worth the trip from Manhattan. Many of the design-forward, handcrafted objects on display here are made by Brooklyn-based artists, like the white, dragon-emblazoned floor vase by Emissary, inscribed earthenware tumblers from Jeanne Koepp, and white leaf vessels by Roost. The smallish space is so crammed with items that it may take a few moments to notice the antique furniture they rest upon—a mix of traditional (a teak bench from Asia) and more modern (a midcentury Burl Wood dining table for six) styles. You’ll also find items like bright quilts by RISD-trained artist Denyse Schmidt, rotund glass drinking cups by designer Britt Bonnesen, a red-and-white porcelain carafe with tumblers by Mint & Co., and circular table “sculptures” made of minuscule seashells. Miscellaneous items like perforated leather laptop cases, “diaper dude” bags for dad, and soaps from around the world by Kala round out the mix.
