Yumi Kim designer Kim Phan first began repurposing vintage clothing and designing dresses as a young girl, and you can still see a youthful influence in the floral prints and pastel palette of many of her feminine basics. The Upper East Side location, the brand’s second New York store, has a somewhat more sedate feel than the downtown shop, but it maintains a number of whimsical touches. Colorful wallpaper covered in vines and birds adorns the walls near the dressing rooms, bright baubles and footwear are displayed on round tables amidst bouquets of flowers and peacock feathers, and three white birdcages hang from the ceiling; there’s also a sitting area in the middle of the space for shoppers in need of a rest. Phan draws from her own collection of vintage items to inspire her free-spirited designs, which include flirty rompers, silk button-ups, and softly patterned maxi-dresses, many of which come in eye-catching graphic prints and bold patterns. The shop also carries an assortment of home décor and accessories, such as candles, throw pillows, bulky jewelry, and small purses.
